“Johnnie Phelps, a woman sergeant in the army, thought, “There was a tolerance for lesbianism if they needed you. The battalion I was in was probably about ninety-seven percent lesbian.”
Sergeant Phelps worked for General Eisenhower. Four decades after Eisenhower had defeated the Axis powers, Phelps recalled an extraordinary event. One day, the general told her, “I’m giving you an order to ferret those lesbians out. We’re going to get rid of them.”
“I looked at him and then I looked at his secretary who was standing next to me, and I said, ‘Well, sir, if the general pleases, sir, I’ll be happy to do this investigation for you. But you have to know that the first name on the list will be mine.’ “
“And he was kind of taken aback a bit. And then this women standing next to me said, ‘Sir, if the General pleases, you must be aware that Sergeant Phelp’s name may be second, but mine will be first.”
“Then I looked at him, and said, ‘Sir, you’re right. They’re lesbians in the WAC battalion. And if the general is prepared to replace all the file clerks, all the section commanders, all the drivers-every woman in the WAC detachment-and there were about nine hundred and eighty something of us-then I’ll be happy to make that list. But I think the general should be aware that among those women are the most highly decorated women in the war. There have been no cases of illegal pregnancy. There have been no cases of AWOL. There have been no cases of misconduct. And as a matter of fact, every six months since we’ve been here, the general has awarded us a commendation for meritorious conduct.”
“And he said, ‘Forget the order.’””

Phelps tells this story herself in the excellent 1984 documentary Before Stonewall, which you can watch in its entirety on YouTube (she’s at 19:30, but really, watch the whole thing): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX7AxQd82H8

“Past feminist refusal to draw attention to and attack racial hierarchies suppressed the link between race and class. Yet class struggle in American society has been shaped by the racial politic of white supremacy; it is only by analyzing racism and its function in capitalist society that a thorough understanding of class relationships can emerge. Class struggle is inextricably bound to the struggle to end racism.”

what a stupid fucking comic

Wow! Whoever made this is deluded

this just in: the anti-feminists still refuse to acknowledge misogyny exists, as it never has happened to them in their lives. also not so sure the sun is really there, or is just another conspiracy created to confuse the people. more at eleven.

"whoever made this is deluded" didnt this comic get made based off an actual experience like. this actually really happened.

My girlfriend has been having an outside guy at work ignore her even though she’s in charge of a project and only speaks directly to her coworker who is male, even though both she and her coworker have repeatedly told him that she is the one in charge of the project. He’s not even being an ass about it. But he can’t seem to get over talking to her about construction and wiring somehow? This definitely happens regularly.

At my old job, a customer who perceived me as female (even though I was at the time a pre-T trans guy) refused to listen to me when I told him something, asked for my manager, and then got huffy when my manager came out to talk to him and she was a woman.

This is a thing that happens daily to women and the guys reblogging this saying that women are deluded are probably the ones who do this kind of shit and are too thick-skulled to see that their behavior is wrong and alter it.

Sure, there are women who won’t know anything about things like tools or science. But there are plenty of men who don’t either. Assuming that a woman knows nothing and that a man will is completely sexist. If a woman can fix something and tells you she can, ignoring that because you don’t trust a woman’s opinion is sexist.
If you can’t understand that, then your opinion is the one that doesn’t matter.

This happens a lot. When I was taking computer science classes my professor thought I had to be cheating off of another student. I was always the first done for tests, and my code always worked. I looked like a woman then.

I once had a clerk at a hardware store argue with me about needing glue to put down under some self stick adhesive tiles. When I laughed, he belligerently followed me around the section and told me I was going to ruin my house. My giant of a husband had to confront him to before he would get away from me.

I despise going into auto parts stores because of how I’ve been treated.

I know it’s sexism because now that I am far enough in my transition to be perceived male, this never happens. In fact, people believe me when I’m just guessing. I find myself constantly redirecting attention back to my lady friends.

RTD Era Meme: [1/2] Scenes That Make You Cry

literarysins:

In light of the 50 Shades of Grey trailer coming out today, quick reminder that that book is about an abusive and controlling relationship, not BDSM.

Fanfiction (published or not) is important for women of all ages to explore gender roles and sexuality in a way that is less stigmatized and more accessible.

But do not do the BDSM community a disservice by calling the relationship described in the book a BDSM experience.
